Los Angeles Area Porsche Dealer

Porsche was created by Ferdinand Porsche in 1931 as a consulting company which provided assistance in automobile design and manufacturing. The first automobile made by Porsche was the Volkswagen Beetle and created a business relationship between the two automobile manufacturers that has lasted over time. The first Porsche model was built in 1939 which shared many parts with the Volkswagen Beetle. A Porsche dealer may also have carry vehicles from Volkswagen and Audi.

During World War II, Porsche was involved with creating vehicles for the military as well as assisting with the design of different tank models. After World War II, Porsche was in financial problems and Ferdinand's son, Ferry Porsche began working on creating the first model to be built by Porsche
called the 356. Ferry built a prototype of the 356 and used this model to solicit orders from German car dealers that wanted to become a Porsche dealer. Once he had enough orders for the 356 the car went into production and in 1952 Porsche built their own manufacturing facility.

The Porsche 356 went through several different design and parts changes over the years, originally using many parts and components supplied by Volkswagen form the Beetle in the beginning and by the end of the model's production were being built with all Porsche made parts and components. Porsche
also built race cars in the late 1950s with success which led the way for the Porsche 911, a model still available from a Porsche dealer today.
The Porsche 911 was different from other sports cars on the road because it used a rear engine design along with air cooling. The first 911s were available in 1964 and included a six cylinder engine. The 911 has been one of the most successful Porsche models sold and became an icon for the company. The 911 got its name from the process used by the design group to assign numbers for every project. The sports car should have been named the 901 but another company already had a trademark in place which prevented Porsche from using this number. The 911 is the only model still available from a Porsche dealer
which carries this numbering.

Porsche design teams still use numbering when developing new models, but since the early 2000's has replaced the numbering with actual product names such as the Cayman, Boxster, Panamera and Cayenne. The Porsche 911 is available from a Porsche dealer in many different models and options including the 911 Carrera, 911 Turbo, 911 Speedster, 911 Targa and 911 Black edition.
